Day Trips from Tampa

The Tampa Bay Area will surely capture your attention while you're there, and you might be so content within it's city limits that you will not have the urge or desire to venture past its boundaries and see what else is out there.

However, there are many appealing towns outside of Tampa you may wish to visit in order to get the whole "Suncoast Experience".

Below are what we consider to be the top must-see day trips from Tampa.  They include: Captiva & Sanibel Islands, Naples, Orlando and Sarasota.  If you have the time and a hankering to see what lies beyond Tampa's borders, we highly recommend visiting the towns below.  Trust us, they're all well worth the trip!

Captiva Island FloridaCaptiva Island

Located past Sanibel Island is Captiva island, a quaint barrier island that has a calming, remote feel to it.

Captiva has appealing beaches and charming restaurants and warrants a day trip if you really want to feel like you got away, even if it's only for a few hours.

Tampa is 170 miles from tranquil Captiva island. The only way to reach Captiva Island is by taking the Sanibel Causeway. Once in Sanibel, head approximately 10 miles North on scenic Sanibel-Captiva Road.

Fort Myers Beach FloridaFort Myers & Fort Myers Beach

South of Tampa in Lee County is Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach.

Fort Myers Beach is comprised of Estero Island and San Carlos Island. There is a laid-back, anything goes feel to Fort Myers Beach similar to that of Key West, with its outgoing & friendly restaurants and people. If you like to fish, bring your rod and reel with you because Fort Myers Beach has a charming fishing pier to enjoy.

It is about 150 miles from Tampa to Fort Myers Beach. If you decide to go, we recommend bringing plenty of quarters for their hungry beach parking meters.

Naples FloridaNaples

Naples is one of the most pristine towns in all of Florida.

There are just so many enjoyable attractions to explore in this upscale Florida community. For dining, strolling and shopping, we suggest Fifth Avenue and Third Street Downtown, as well as the Waterside Shops, Venetian Village and Miromar Outlets.
Stop by GoNaplesFlorida.com to find out the many wonderful amenities this charming town has to offer.

Naples is an easy 160 mile ride South on I-75 from the Tampa area.

Sarasota FloridaOrlando

For kids and big kids alike, what's not to enjoy about Orlando Florida?
The "Magic City" as it's known has seemingly unlimited entertainment and attractions. Walt Disney World, SeaWorld, Epcot Center, Universal Orlando, Cypress Gardens Adventure Park, Silver Springs, WonderWorks, Gatorland and CityWalk are just a sampling of the fun. More information can be found at GoOrlandoFlorida.com.

From Tampa, Orlando is a 2-hour, 90 mile ride East on I-4. Because of the moderate distance and amount of attractions, you may want to spend the night or a few days there, but doing Orlando in a day is feasible.

Sanibel Island FloridaSanibel Island

Like Captiva, Sanibel is a barrier island and is easily accessible via the Sanibel Causeway. Most of Sanibel's population is on the East end of the island, but their picturesque beaches and tasty restaurants are spread throughout.

Shopping, shelling, watercraft sports and dining are popular activities on Sanibel Island.

It is 160 miles from Tampa to Sanibel Island, and should take just over three hours in moderate traffic.

Sarasota FloridaSarasota

Sarasota Florida is a thriving medium-sized town with a lot of enjoyable things to do in and around its city limits.

There are many parts of Sarasota to explore, including the coastal areas of Siesta, Lido and Longboat Key. We suggest visiting St. Armand's Circle, the Selby Botanical Gardens and Ringling Museum of Art.  For a complete list of Sarasota attractions, dining, entertainment and more, log onto GoSarasotaFlorida.com

From Tampa, Sarasota is an easy 65 mile ride South on I-75.
