There's a fantastic array of museums around the Tampa Bay Area for you to enjoy and explore at your leisure. For art aficionados, there's of course the ever-popular Tampa Museum of Art. A brand new, 66,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility is under construction, and is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2009. A rendition of what the new and drastically improved Tampa Museum of Art will look like, is next to the Museum's contact information below. In the meantime, we suggest visiting the Tampa Museum of Art at it's temporary home on North Howard Avenue. Another museum that's getting a facelift is the Glazier Children's Museum. Opening during the Spring of 2010, the new Glazier Children's Museum will be a 53,000 square foot building that will provide children and adults alike with a learning environment like no other. All kinds of interactive exhibits will be on premises, that will educate and challenge the body and mind. Speaking of keeping the mind active, those who are into the sciences will be wowed and awed about what they see at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) on East Fowler Avenue. There's exhibits aplenty like "The High Wire Bicycle", "The Diplodocus Dinosaurs" and "MaxFlight Simulator" as well as interesting visiting and traveling exhibitions such as "Body Works" and "Deep Sea Treasures". The IMAX Dome Theatre, Science Works Theater and Saunders Planetarium are also on the grounds of MOSI. All hands and eyes are on deck when looking around the massive and impressive SS American Victory, at the American Victory Mariners Memorial & Museum Ship, docked along the waterway in the city's Channel District. Learn all about the ship's amazing history dating back to the 1940's and it's decades of valiant service to it's country. If you've strolled around Ybor city, you probably noticed the old-world architecture of it's buildings. Find out in great detail how this charming and unique Tampa district came about, at the Ybor City State Museum. You'll be taken back to the days of Vincente Martinez Ybor's tireless contributions in the 1800's all the way up to Ybor City's present day status. To become educated on the historical events that made the entire Tampa Bay area what it is today, the place to be is the Tampa Bay History Center on Old Water Street. Tampa Bay's past dates all the way back to the 1500's, and there are countless stories to hear and artifacts to see that will certainly enlighten you. The University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum displays tremendous works of recent art from its students and graduates, as well as featured professional artists from around the globe. The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, at their downtown location on Tampa Street, collects, preserves and displays impressive photographic works by internationally renowned photographic artists. If you're a car buff, then we encourage you to put it in high gear and visit the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum in Pinellas Park, to see a dynamic display of automobiles from yesteryear. Models on display at the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum feature a Masarati Sebring Series II, Tatra T75, Adler Trumpf, Claveau 56, DeLorean, and Mercedes 170H.
