Outdoor Adventures
Under the bright and warm Tampa Bay sun, there is an incredible amount of popular outdoor attractions for you to enjoy. One of the top points of interest is of course Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. This is an extraordinary 19th century African-themed park that is worth the price of admission. It features an enormous safari with resident wildlife such as gorillas, chimpanzees, hyenas, hippos, bats, snakes, lizards, giraffes, and gazelles, just to name a few. Exhilarating amusement rides feature roller coasters, log flumes, and water chutes. Across the street from Busch Gardens is another popular Tampa Bay outdoor attraction, Adventure Island. The park's 30-acres provide many ways to beat the heat via their many water rides. Corkscrew slides, waterfalls, a giant wave pool, a rambling river along with other water-based contrivances are on premises. When it comes to observing the vast foliage and vegetation in the region, the place to visit is the delightful Bok Tower Gardens. Acres of ferns, palms, oaks and pines, along with a variation of flowers create a serene environment second to none. The 205-foot Neo Gothic and art deco Singing Tower 60-bell carillon has to be seen and heard during its 1pm & 3pm concerts to be truly appreciated. The University of South Florida's Botanical Gardens are another fine way to take in various vegetation. The 7-acre Gardens filled with over 3,000 taxa of plants and natural habitats on the USF campus grounds play a significant role within the Department of Environmental Science and Policy in the College of Arts & Sciences. More than 2,000 animals from all corners of the globe can be seen at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. Child Magazine ranked the Lowry Park Zoo as the number-one family-friendly zoo in the United States. The Big Cat Rescue near the Carrollwood Village neighborhood of Tampa is the world's largest accredited Big Cat Rescue Facility. This non-profit educational sanctuary takes in and provides a permanent home for more than 16 species of exotic cats from panthers to jaguars. Become one with nature along the shores of Lake Maggiore in St. Petersburg, at the 245-acre Boyd Hill Nature Preserve. On the grounds of the Preserve is over three miles of trails and boardwalks, five unique ecosystems, bird of prey aviary, picnic areas and playground. Guided tours, group rentals and overnight camping facilities are also available at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve. Although the facility is partially indoors, The Florida Aquarium made our list, because of all the amazing aquatic adventures to be had there. Roughly 20,000 aquatic plants and animals are on display. Notable interactive programs include "Sim with the Fishes" and "Dive with the Sharks". Guests can even talk to the scuba divers and ask them questions about life under water. Go back in time to the days when dinosaurs ruled the planet at Dinosaur World in nearby Plant City Florida. More than 150 life size dinosaurs with explanatory signs are scattered about the park's many acres, along with a Fossil Dig, Caves, Boneyard, Museum, Skeleton Garden and Playground. Tampa's
beautiful beaches are
of course another great way to spend quality time outdoors.
Make sure to head out to as many of these outdoor attractions as possible while you're here. You'll find them to be quite enjoyable and educational! Regardless of the time of year, make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen while you're outside. The Florida sun is intense whether it has clouds in front of it or not, so please err on the side of caution and use an SPF of at least 15 to block out those harmful rays.
