Get as close to the game as possible by watching some of the most thrilling live sports action in the Sunshine State. For starters, we have the hard-hitting Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who play in the NFC South Division of the National Football League. The 2003 Super Bowl Champions play their home games at Raymond James Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway. Also on the gridiron is the Tampa Bay Storm, of the Arena Football League. Games of this exciting and innovative football organization take place during the summer months. You can check out the 5-time AFL Champion Storm at the St. Pete Times Forum in the Channelside district. Speaking of hard hits, Tampa Bay is also home to the Lightning, that compete in the National Hockey League. They too won it all recently, by winning the Stanley Cup during the 2003-2004 season. The home ice for the Lightning is the St. Pete Times Forum. Going from bodily hits to the hitting of baseballs, there is plenty of energy swirling around the area diamonds. Tropicana Field in nearby St. Petersburg is where the Tampa Bay Rays compete in the American League of Major League Baseball. Before the major league baseball season even gets underway, you can get a preview of the New York Yankees in Tampa and Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater during their spring training schedules. Three terrific minor league baseball teams play in the area as well. The Tampa Yankees, Clearwater Threshers and Dunedin Blue Jays all compete in the exciting Class A Advanced Florida State League. Terrific NCAA sports action can be seen courtesy of The University of South Florida Bulls and The University of Tampa Spartans. Catch college football's annual Outback Bowl featuring the Big Ten Conference versus the Southeastern Conference during bowl season at Raymond James Stadium. If horse racing excites you, then gallop over to Tampa Bay Downs for exhilarating thoroughbred racing.
